Camelback Resort: A Fun-Filled Winter Getaway in the Poconos!

Camelback Resort: A Fun-Filled Winter Getaway in the Poconos!

Nestled in the scenic Pocono Mountains, Camelback Resort is a year-round recreational destination ideal for adventure-packed multi-generational family travel and experiences. Its wooded hills and valleys serve as the background for almost two million outdoor enthusiasts and nature loving visitors annually.

The resort includes Camelback Mountain for unsurpassed skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing; Camelback Mountain Adventures for ziplining, a treetop obstacle course, and alpine mountain coaster; Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark, Pennsylvania’s biggest outdoor waterpark; and Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, the latter voted USA Today’s 2019 #1 Indoor Waterpark.

Camelback Lodge

We stayed at Camelback Lodge, an eight-story mountain modern-designed hotel with 453 guest suites, featuring many dining choices including ski-in/ski-out restaurants, Serenity Spa, a fitness center, and so much more.

Located in Tannersville, PA, the resort is ideally located 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Philadelphia.
Check-in was easy and the staff is so friendly, helpful and accomodating. We appreciated all of the suggestions they offered us to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
We loved the modern mountain décor and comfortable furnishings that styled our suite. Our 2 bedroom suite included 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, small kitchen and a living room with a fireplace.
We found a great set up in our suite. A comfortable king sized bed as the master bedroom with an attached bathroom, a sofa bed in the living room, with a beautiful mountain view. There was another bathroom in the hallway, a kitchen area, and another room that housed two full sized beds, perfect for our family.
We woke up to scenic views of the mountains and snow covered slopes in a cozy yet spacious room. We felt welcomed and most of all safe. The room was clean and filled with disinfectant wipes, masks and hand sanitizer for us to use. During the pandemic these are the most vial essentials and we were glad to see how serious Camelback Lodge was taking it.
We were happy to learn that all suites offer family friendly in-suite conveniences including: a mini-refrigerator, a microwaver, a hairdryer, a safe, an ironing and at least one HDTV. We had HDTVs in each room!

Dining options include: Hemispheres, a family friendly all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant open for breakfast and dinner (however, because of covid our orders were brought to our tables); Trails End Pub & Grille, a ski-in/ski-out American brew pub open daily; Neptunes, open for lunch and dinner with a view of Aquatopia and an appealing kids menu as well as craft cocktails for adults; Graffiti Pizza, a New York graffiti-themed pizza spot; Berrelli’s Family Style Italian Restaurant offering authentic Italian cuisine and an extensive wine list in a fine-dining ambiance; Flyboys, the Poconos’ most unique indoor pool and swim-up bar reserved for guests 21 or older; and  more you can see on Camelback’s website here.

Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark

The best thing about planning a vacation that includes an indoor waterpark is that you don’t have to worry about the weather ruining your plans. With so many on-site attractions, the stress of planning is completely removed.

What I loved the most about Aquatopia was the light that poured in from the overhead skylight. I felt like I could have been outdoors in the tropics with the aqua water glistening and that 84 degree temperature. The sun shines through during the day from the transparent roof and at night it is beautiful lit up with LED lights.

The park is themed around world exploration and discovery, inspiring kids and adults alike to have fun on their signature thrill rides. There’s an AquaPlay structure and seven pools!
We felt very safe in the waterpark with more than 120 lifeguards to oversee the safety of all guests and extreme cleaning procedures being employed on a daily basis. We’re all looking for a safe escape to relax and have some fun during these unprecedented times. Camelback utilizes CDC safe and approved disinfectants.
With wild slides, fun rides, cozy cabanas and more, it’s everything you want from a waterpark!

It has plenty of exciting and innovative water slides – tube slides, body slides, mat, bowl and aqua launch slides as well as kiddie slides for the youngest thrill seekers and more. You can choose to ride the more thrilling rides and then float through the lost River. My eldest, Ryan, even went boogie boarding!

We were so excited to try all of the rides! We were soaked and loved every minute of it. Here’s a list of rides for adults and big kids:

VENUS SLYDETRAP- The only combination family raft ride of its kind in the world!
STORM CHASER- North America’s longest indoor uphill water coaster.
THE HIMALAYAN- The region’s only indoor head-first mat waterslide features AquaLucent lighting and high-speed drops.
OUTA-SPACE RACE- A high-speed, feet-first body slide.
MOUNTAIN MAYHEM- An enclosed and translucent tube slide.
CONSTRICTOR- The fully enclosed Constrictor swallows two-person rafts into its depths down through a series of narrowing then widening spirals.
PARADISE PLUNGE- A high-speed, free-fall body slide.
SKYDIVE PLUMMET- Riders step into the AquaLaunch at the top of the tower before a trap door below opens and the rider plummets into a 60-foot thrill ride.
BOMBORA FLOWRIDER- A great way for first timers to learn to boogie board or surf in a safe and controlled environment and a fun way for more experienced flow boarders to sharpen their skills.

All of my kids enjoyed KARTRITE’S QUEST too! It’s an immersive multi-level AquaPlay structure including geyser jets, rotating dumping troughs, hose jets, pull ropes, tipping cones, water guns, plunger jets, water wheels and water cannons with zero-depth entry pool at the base of the water play structure. The Platforms and stairs separate interactive zones designed for different age levels, giving guests a choice of going to the slides or the interactive water features.

They also loved PENGUIN PLAY BAY. This playful 42ʺ and under Antarctic-themed kids shallow adventure lagoon features two Penguin City themed kids slides and numerous themed water sprays, geysers, sprinklers and a children’s museum quality interactive water table.
We stayed in a cabana during our stay where we could comfortably order food and take breaks and even naps when needed. The cabanas offer deluxe features with an HDTV, mini-fridge as well as a table with chairs and L-shaped sofas.
They also have the very best staff! Everyone is so helpful and genuinely kind and want to ensure you have a great experience. We had so much fun during our stay and highly recommend the waterpark. We can see why USA Today named it America’s #1 indoor waterpark!

Arcadia Adventures

If the 37 slides and pools aren’t enough to keep your little ones entertained, there are plenty of indoor activities to choose from including an arcade room, mini golf, laser tag, bumper cars, an escape room, a bowling alley, rock climbing and so much more.

The arcade is huge! The kids didn’t want to leave! You can find more information here.

Camelback Mountain & Snowtubing Park

Camelback Mountain is a winter haven for adventure seekers. Its snowmaking capacity could cover MetLife Stadium or the George Washington Bridge with one foot of snow in just 24 hours. Camelback Mountain invites outdoors adventurers to enjoy 39 trails, 16 lifts and the country’s largest snowtubing park complete with an out-of-this-world galactic after-dark light experience.
The galactic snowtubing experience was a colorful and thrilling adventure. There isn’t anything like it! With music and LED lights you’ll feel alive as darkness falls. The mountain snow glistening in the glow of thousands of colorful LED lights is a marvelous sight as you zip down the tubing lanes. And the Magic Carpets bring you right back up to do it over and over again!

Snowtubing sessions are two hours long and start every hour on the hour. We highly suggest purchasing tickets online in advance to secure your spot! https://www.camelbackresort.com/ski-tube/poconos-snowtubing-snowboarding/

Everything about this extensive lodge is multipurpose: Adults can relax or take part in the adventures while the kids are entertained (and tire themselves out). Camelback truly delivers a winter and waterpark wonderland.

All of this fun is just a short drive from both NYC and Philadelphia, in the beautiful Poconos Mountains. To learn more about Aquatopia and Camelback Resort, visit their website!

For Nearby and Preferred Dining Options:

For great dining experiences we recommend Desaki and the Frogtown Chophouse. They are only 15 minutes away from the resort and each have their own unique experience to offer.

Desaki

This family-friendly hibachi restaurant was beautifully decorated with chandeliers and fresh flowers, something you don’t typically see in a hibachi restaurant.  The tables surround a wooden dance floor, inviting all to dance and enjoy the fun.

We ordered sushi, eggrolls, and calamari as appetizers and were so pleased with it all! They had so many choices and everything we ate bursted with flavor. They prepared all of our favorite dishes including filet mignon, lobster, scallops, salmon, chicken, NY Strip and jumbo shrimp and so much more; properly cooked and seasoned.

They put on quite a show! We had two cooks side-by-side creating volcanoes out of vegetables, twirling their cooking utensils, and setting their own hats on fire! The cooks and staff are so friendly, making jokes and engaging us the entire time.
On the dance floor they had a DJ playing all the top pop songs. After dinner, we danced with our little ones and got blasted by their fog machine. The kids loved it! We would recommend Desaki to anyone dining in the area.

The Frogtown Chophouse

If you’re looking for an exquisite dining experience look no further than Frogtown Chophouse. This American steakhouse only serves the highest quality cuts. In a cozy romantic setting it’s perfect for date nights; it also accommodates families who enjoy fine dining.
The meats were perfectly cooked and all other items had great quality and taste. We were pleased to try Chef Lyman’s signature Maryland style crab cake and Crab and Shrimp Bisque. They were delicious and full of flavor. The starters are also nice including the Caesar salad and the side of vegetables, all so fresh.
For dessert we had the Brioche Bread Pudding with Ice cream on the side, another signature dish of the chef! Soft, warm and melts in your mouth. Nothing more comforting in the winter, especially if you’re like me and love a sweet and savory dessert. Our waitress was also kind enough to bring over a delicious cheesecake that isn’t even on the menu!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience in this sophisticated ambiance. Everyone was genuinely kind and attentive. We felt very at ease.

I would recommend anyone visiting the area to come and dine here!
