Why You Need to Visit American Dream: Nickelodeon Universe & DreamWorks Water Park

Nickelodeon Universe DreamWorks Water Park

The Best Two Attractions in the Tri-State can be found at the American Dream Mall: Nickelodeon Universe & DreamWorks Waterpark.

Right outside of New York City, and directly next to the MetLife Stadium, is the American Dream Mall. This massive complex is home to the largest indoor amusement park in the country, Nickelodeon Universe, as well as the largest indoor waterpark in North America, DreamWorks waterpark.

American Dream Mall also includes the theme park Big SNOW, which is the first indoor snow park in all of North America, as well as an Ice-skating rink, two 18-hole miniature golf courses, and more to come soon. American Dream definitely meets all of your indoor entertainment needs!

Nickelodeon Universe

We entered Nickelodeon Universe excited and feeling nostalgic, as we saw all of our favorite Nick characters come to life! The bright colors and the noise automatically lifts your spirits as you feel the energy of being in the park. The glass ceiling and back wall allow natural light to pour in giving you a bright outdoor feeling without actually having to be outdoors. Then at night, it feels like you’re out in the dark except all the rides are lit up.

They check the temperature of each person that enters right now due to COVID, require all guests 2 and over to wear masks, require social distancing in the park and on the rides, provide self-use sanitizer all over the park, and they sanitize each ride (with what we called the ghost-buster spray-gun) after use. We felt very safe and were glad these safety measures were put in place.

The rides are thrilling for all ages, and the tot-friendly play structures are a fun attraction for the little ones where they can just run and play on their own. Even though their paw patrol playground area was closed because of COVID the rides were almost all functioning. We found that there was plenty to do without it.

The Park includes more than 30 rides and attractions for all-ages to enjoy and is open all year round. The Rides are themed around Nickelodeon shows that range from when I was a kid (like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rugrats, SpongeBob Square Pants) to some of today’s favorites like PAW Patrol, Jimmy Neutron, Shimmer and Shine, and Blue’s Clues. And prepared to be waved at as you roam the park from characters like Dora and SpongeBob!

Some of our favorite family-friendly rides include:

Bikini Bottom Crosstown Express – Board the Crosstown Express Bus to go spinning and reeling through the streets of Bikini Bottom.
SpongeBob’s Jellyfish Jam – Whirl and swirl through Jellyfish Fields in this family swing ride.
The Rugrats’ Reptar Go-Round – a carousel for all ages where you are surrounded by Grandpa Lou, Tommy, Chucky and Angelica!
Legends of the Hidden Temple Challenge – Olmec challenges all to scale to breathtaking heights in the world’s tallest adventure ropes course. Temporarily closed due to COVID.

Cool Rides for the Little Kids:

Blaze’s Monster Truck Rally – Rev up and roll out with Blaze and his friends for an epic race in the Monster Dome.
Dora’s Sky Railway – Take a trip aboard Dora’s little blue train friend, Azul. The only way to get to this little rail station in the clouds is by taking a hot air balloon that floats you to the top.
Fairly OddAirways – When Timmy wishes to become a pilot, you get to go along for the ride and fly through the clouds!
Pup Pup & Away – Join Marshall and the gang on a PAWsome Ferris wheel that’s an adventure for the whole family.
Blue’s Skidoo – Make Blue and Magenta soar up, down, and all around!
PAW Patrol Adventure Bay – The slides, climb structures and rescue-play activities in Adventure Bay are specially designed for the younger kids. This is currently closed because of COVID.
Ren & Stimpy’s Space Madness – Join Commander Hoëk and Cadet Stimpy on a 36-year mission to the Crab Nebula.
Shimmer & Shine Jumping Genies – Climb onto your very own magic carpet as you take a ride through the skies of Zahramay Falls.

Nickelodeon Universe DreamWorks Water Park

Big Kids, Teens, and Adults can get their hearts racing on some of these thrill rides:

The Shellraiser – Help the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles battle the villainous Shredder. First snap a pic with the Turtles in the Shellraiser, then prepare to launch onto the streets of New York City. his coaster holds the record for the world’s steepest drop.
Nickelodeon Skyline Scream – The spectacular Skyline Scream is the world’s tallest indoor spinning drop tower. It’s a scenic, scream-filled thrill ride with views of Nickelodeon Universe and the cityscape of Manhattan.
The Shredder – You’ll hang on for dear life aboard the world’s tallest and longest free-spinning coaster traversing hairpin turns, plummeting spirals and speeding spins.
Sandy’s Blasting Bronco – Sandy and mechanic Patrick have built an out-of-control coaster contraption. It blasts you forward, backwards, up, down and even upside-down.
Kraang Prime Pandemonium – A 360-degree pendulum swing that swings back and forth, if you’re up for it!
Timmy’s Half Pipe Havoc – This not-so-ordinary half-pipe shuttle coaster is based on the Fairly Oddparents. This giant skateboard ride provides the ultimate in air time!
Aang’s Air Gliders – You soar and spin like an Airbender! After your flight you can snap a photo with Appa, Aang’s sky bison.
Jimmy Neutron’s Atom Smasher – Jimmy Neutron needs your help to supercharge his latest invention. You control the level of thrill from gentle cruise to a topsy-turvy tumble.

We enjoyed the park from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday and it wasn’t crowded at all. There were short lines on the biggest attractions that went by pretty quickly. They do have limited food and drink options available to guests and there is no re-entry once you leave the park.

DreamWorks Water Park

We were amazed as soon as we walked in. It was as if we were on a set of a jungle themed movie. When you think of indoor water park you don’t expect it to be as open and bright as DreamWorks. American’s largest indoor water park is beneath an 8-acre glass dome, and you can see the entire park, end-to-end, from almost anywhere. So you’ll experience year-round fun and sun with some of DreamWorks Animation’s memorable characters.

Nickelodeon Universe DreamWorks Water Park

They checked our temperatures as soon as we walked in because of COVID, just like at Nickelodeon. You can only enter the waterpark through the changing areas. They have designated areas for families, which we found to be very convenient, besides the exclusive women and men’s areas.

Nickelodeon Universe DreamWorks Water Park

DreamWorks has 40 water slides and 15 attractions.
The theme and the innovations in the waterslides were all incredible. The first attraction you see is the Soakin’ Surfari, where you can either surf or body board on simulated waves. This attraction was free, which usually isn’t the case at other waterparks.

Right behind Soakin’ Surfari, is one of the main attractions: a giant treehouse with with lots of water slides pouring out of it. It looks magical as you try to take in the sight with all its trees, colorful slides, and animated characters. There are at least a dozen slides attached to it: body slides, raft slides, intense slides, mat slides and the world’s tallest indoor drop slide with a 50-foot free fall called Thrillagascarrrr. Two slides makeup Thrillagascarrrr with an elaborate display of a plane jutting out between them.

DreamWorks Water Park broke so many records, including this next one: The Toothless Trickling Torpedo, the world’s tallest and longest hydromagnetic water coaster.

Make a splash in the largest indoor wave pool.

The rides have a good mix of thrilling and tame. You can choose to relax at the Forbidden Waters Hot Tubs (which were closed when we went due to COVID), or float through the Bubbly Lazy River. There’s also a multi-level water jungle at the Kung Fu Panda Temple of Awesomeness for the little kids. It has six slides, geysers, a giant tipping bucket that’ll soak you, and if you choose to avoid it you’ll still get wet because it feels like you’re in a rainforest that’s dropping on you and splashing you.
Nickelodeon Universe DreamWorks Water Park
I initially thought the back area was for the little ones, until we discovered more intense slides as I got closer. Shrek’s Sinkhole Slammer, Dragon & Dronkey’s Flight, and Swamp n’ Splash are each four person tube rides–unique and fun in their own way.
The park caters to all different ages and swimming capabilities. You can choose to hang 10 alongside Shrek or plummet down slides with the Madagascar penguins.
Overall, we were so impressed with DreamWorks Water Park. It’s really bright, fun, and kept at a consistent 84 degrees, so you really want to get in the water, and feel comfortable doing so. They also have a selection of snacks and sandwiches at the food counters for when you’re ready to grab a bite.
With something for everyone, American Dream is the destination for family entertainment. We weren’t expecting to have as much fun as we did. It truly felt like we were in a different world with all the unique, thrilling, and innovative rides they had for adults as well as children in each park. We hope you will get the chance to enjoy it for yourselves.
